Asda Announce Trial Of Wincor Nixdorf 360 Degree Scanner

Asda has announced it will trial the 360-degree scanner from Wincor Nixdorf for the first time in the UK market.

Using the device, the till automatically scans all items that are loaded onto the conveyor belt, eliminating the need for them to be scanned individually, thus increasing speeds by up to 300%.

The system has two bagging areas, meaning a second customer can load their items, have them scanned and 'checkout' while the first customer is bagging their shopping. As a result, shoppers can checkout without feeling rushed, queues are reduced and overall shopping time is less.

The new pilot is currently in the Asda York store and is constantly manned by a trained staff member to ensure everything runs smoothly. Retail Director at Asda Mark Ibbotson commented on the new implementation, saying: “We’re the first to bring this amazing machine to our shoppers before anyone else, so we are really excited to hear what everyone thinks of it.”
