Beiersdorf Ireland Posts €2.07m Loss

The Irish arm of Nivea parent Beiersdorf, Beiersdorf Ireland Limited, posted a €2.07 million loss in the year to end December 31st, 2011, according to accounts just filed by the company.

Turnover at Beiersdorf Ireland was down approximately €1.4 million on the previous year, at €14.6 million, with gross profit standing at €6.54 million. However, administrative expenses of €5.6 million and a €2.9 million loss on the termination of operations, put the company in the red for the year. In 2010, Beiersdorf Ireland posted a profit of €2.03 million.

Commenting on the performance, the directors said that "external factors such as changes in the economic environment, political unrest, terrorist activity, innovation of competitors and the increased power of consumers are all areas of uncertainty for the future."

Beiersdorf announced in May that it was to close Beiersdorf Ireland this year, with the company scheduled to cease operations in December 2012.
