Mondelez International Takes On Nestlé With Launch Of Nespresso Compatible Capsules

Mondelez International has unveiled plans to launch of a new range of espresso capsules that will be compatible with rival Nestlé's popular Nespresso system. 

The capsules, which will be launched in Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland in the second half of 2013, will come under the Jacobs and Carte Noir brands. 

"The launch of Carte Noir and Jacobs compatible capsules is an important part of the company's coffee strategy and marks another significant investment in Europe's $2.8 billion single-serve category," the company said in a statement.

According to Roland Weening, global vice-president of strategy, marketing and innovation for coffee at Mondelez International,  "Our new range of compatible capsules represents increased competition in the fast-growing single-serve coffee sector and is a significant commercial opportunity for Mondelez International. With the launch of these capsules and our stepped-up activities and investment in Tassimo, we will cement our position as the fastest growing single-serve business and the world's second largest coffee company."
