Nestlé UK and Ireland has announced plans to create 1,900 employment opportunities for young people over the next three years as part of the Nestlé European Youth Employment Initiative. Each year, 600 employment opportunities will be available in all areas of the business at all levels, from factory operators to field sales assistants and business management, including 300 paid work experience placements.
Deirdre O’Donoghue, Country Manager Nestle Ireland stated, “Sadly young people in Ireland are stuck in a catch-22 situation. They can’t get a job without experience, but can’t get experience without a job. Companies need to help young people escape from this trap. As employers we value young people with experience, so we have to provide young people with enough opportunities to gain it.”
The Nestlé Youth Employment Initiative expects that some 5% of the employment opportunities will be available in Ireland, where youth unemployment is 28%, with more than 65,000 young people out of work.
