Pet Snack Maker Rondo Foods To Close Arklow Site With 150 Jobs Loss

Pet treat maker Rondo Foods is set to close its Arklow facility, with the loss of 150 jobs.

The group which manufactures snacks for dogs and cats under private labels for renowned European companies said that it will relocate its Co.Wicklow plant to Krefeld in Germany in January 2020.

"We deeply regret this development," the management said in a statement.

"For eight years our Irish staff have shown immense commitment in contributing to the development of the site," it added.

The German company said that all staff have been offered redundancy packages which 'exceed the scale of the mandatory statutory redundancy packages.

"In liaison with the Department of Social Welfare there will be an information meeting for all staff within the next few days," the company said.

"The unsatisfactory economic development and the market situation necessitate the bundling of operations at our largest location in Germany,” explained the Management.

At the beginning of November Rondo Food Ireland started a consultation process between the management and the works committee.
