Maxol To Build Residential Units In Saggart Over Petrol Station Site

Maxol has decided to build housing instead of a petrol station at one of its key sites in Dublin, according to the Irish Independent.

The forecourt retailer has allegedly applied for planning permission to build up to 29 residential units in Saggart.

The group operates a site in the south-west Dublin village, and the plans follow a similar proposal by Maxol to build a five-story apartment building in place of one of its service stations in Sandymount, Dublin 4.

Diversify

Chief executive Brian Donaldson previously said that the group is looking to diversify in order to protect itself against the effect of electric cars on its business.

The proposal will see its petrol station, as well as a nearby car dealership, demolished. It will also see a pub renovated for office use.

Plans to build the apartment blocks will also include the introduction of two retail units.

According to the Independent, the local authority has already agreed to allow the application to include a portion of land it owns itself in exchange for the provision of some social housing.
