Applegreen To Launch 100% Recyclable Coffee Cups At Taste of Dublin 2018

Applegreen has reinforced its green credentials, announcing that it will replace all non-recyclable single-use cups in stores with a new 100% recyclable cup created by reCUP.

One of Ireland’s leading forecourt retailers is launching the new 100% recylable cups and lids at the Taste of Dublin 2018 event in the Iveagh Gardens.

The new recylable cups use earth coating, a fully recyclable lining engineered to be processed easily through traditional paper recycling equipment and to be recycled into new paper products.

“At Applegreen we are extremely passionate about reducing our impact on the environment,” said Conor Lucey, head of operations at Applegreen Plc.

“Every day in Ireland, approximately 2 million paper coffee cups are being diverted to landfills because the interior plastic coating makes them very difficult to recycle. We are delighted to be able to make the switch and play our part in reducing non-recyclable waste.”

Applegreen is the Official Coffee Partner of Ireland’s premier food and drinks, event which will take place from 14 to 17 of June.

The forecourt retailer will have an exhibition stand present at the event where visitors can experience a range of recipes, including signature drinks and treats exclusive to the event.

It will also share its knowledge about bean roasting and will welcome guests to test their barista skills with latte art competitions.

Throughout the years, Applegreen has been actively working on recycling and waste minimisation through the use of ‘green’ suppliers, sustainable materials, biodiversity, energy management and water efficiency.

Applegreen recently announced a positive start to the financial year with trading results continuing to improve on the prior year despite some adverse weather effects.
