Coeliac Society Calls On Supermarkets To Stock Eight Gluten Free Staples

The Coeliac Society has will launch a new initiative callings on supermarkets to stock eight gluten free staples, according to a statement it issued today (11 April.)

The initiative will be in place for its Coeliac Awareness Week which will take place from 8 to 15 May. The theme for this year is 'Faces of Coeliac Disease'.

The Coeliac Society highlighted that it will be highlighting the fact that 'coeliac disease can occur at any stage in life, and is a life-long condition'.

It outlined that over the course of the week the range of other events include, the launch of an online self-assessment tool to help people to determine if they could be coeliac; a campaign aimed at GPs and pharmacists to raise awareness of the symptoms of coeliac disease and also a series of in-store events at SuperValu stores around Ireland, including dietetic talks, advice from the Coeliac Society of Ireland and gluten-free food samplings.

Coeliac disease affects an estimated one in every 100 people in Ireland.
