Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland marketing director Ray Kelly has told Checkout that is is bullish about the prospects for SuperValu this Christmas, following yesterday's Kantar Worldpanel figures that revealed the retailer is now the Irish market leader.
"We have good momentum going into Christmas," said Kelly. "We have a strong balance of value, quality, and we are getting great feedback about our TV ads. I think we are well set up to have a strong Christmas performance."
Kelly believes that the retailer's performance in Dublin has enabled it to 'kick on' and deliver a strong proposition for customers in the capital. "In Dublin, it has taken some people a while to work us out and what we stood for," he said. "That narrative is now changing."
Kelly added that while it is "great" that the retailer has been recognized as number one in the Kantar market share figures, "our focus isn't necessarily on market share. What we are more focused on is ensuring that all of our independent stores are in positive growth.
"If that impacts on market share, it's all well and good, but my job is to ensure the business is performing well around the country."
