Did you know...? UK consumers spent £439 million (€509 million) on confectionary ahead of Easter in the four weeks to 27 March, a 34% rise compared with the same period in 2020, industry data has shown. Ahead of a slight easing of lockdown restrictions in England on March 29 but with non essential retail remaining closed, consumers also turned to supermarkets to treat themselves on clothes as well as home and garden items, market researcher NielsenIQ said.

Did you know...? Waitrose & Partners has launched a new private label range inspired by the diverse and vibrant culture of the Levant – the area along the shore of the eastern Mediterranean region, focussing on the cuisines of Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, and Cyprus, reports esmmagazine.com The Levantine Table range launches in shops and Waitrose.com from 12 April. 

Did you know...? Domino's Pizza Inc and Nuro Inc, a Silicon Valley startup, said on they will launch robotic pizza delivery in Houston this week, seeking to capitalise on rising online orders caused by the pandemic, reports Reuters. Nuro, founded by two former Google engineers in 2016, raised $940 million from the SoftBank Vision Fund and recently secured an undisclosed amount of equity investment from Woven Capital, the mobility investment arm of a Toyota Motor Corp subsidiary.

Did you know...? Italian fresh produce retailer Banco Fresco plans to open six new stores during 2021, ten more in 2022, and double its network by 2023, according to a report in the Italian daily Il Sole 24 OreThe ambitious plans follow a successful test in the Piedmont region, with the opening of two stores in Turin and Beinasco. Established in 2017, Banco Fresco offers around 3,250 fresh produce SKUs, mainly comprising fruit and vegetables. The assortment also includes cheese and dairy products, butchery and charcuterie, fishmongers, food pantry and bakery, in partnership with the El Pan brand.
