Seven Irish Food Start-ups Selected To Showcase At Retail Trade Show

Seven Irish start up food businesses have won the opportunity to showcase and sell their products at a one day retail trade show, which is run by BWG Foods and will take place on the 13 June, Citywest Dublin.

'The suppliers will get exposure to approximately 1,000 retailers across the Spar, Eurospar, Mace, Londis and XL retail brands,' the convenience operator said in a statement.

To coincide with this year’s event, BWG Foods created a brand new programme supporting Irish food innovation in partnership with Dublin Food Chain, and the seven chosen suppliers will also now become official listed suppliers of the Group.

“Ireland’s food scene is thriving and we have seen some fantastic food innovation come through our new start-up programme.  The footprint of our business means we have a presence in villages, towns and cities all across Ireland so we are delighted to be able to support local Irish suppliers, and to share with them our knowledge and experience of the retail food business,” said Leo Crawford, group chief executive of BWG Group.

As part of the programme, which has been ongoing for several months, BWG Foods shortlisted fourteen suppliers, giving them the chance to pitch in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition where it was whittled down to the final seven.

The winning group are set to join more than 200 indigenous and multinational suppliers at this year’s event, getting exclusive access to sell to local independent retailers who have a combined annual turnover of €2 billion.
