Survey: Half Of Shoppers Find Aldi, Lidl 'Welcoming'

Just half of the shoppers surveyed for the recent Visualise Shopper Nation 2014 report found Lidl and Aldi to have 'welcoming' store environments.

In comparison, 78% of shoppers said that SuperValu was 'welcoming', followed by around 60% citing Tesco and Dunnnes as 'welcoming'.

The results come from the Visualise study,'Shopper Nation 2014', which examines the shifting behaviours, attitudes and perceptions of over 1,000 Irish shoppers.

70% of the survey participants rated SuperValu the highest for 'store tidiness', while Lidl came second, followed by Dunnes and Tesco.

It suggested that "people don’t generally enjoy grocery shopping trips, but rather find it to be an unavoidable chore, so the onus on retailers to excite or inspire them in some way is clearly evident. If retailers can achieve this through small subtle changes shoppers may be convinced to stay loyal to them for reasons other than just price or convenience.”

Suggestions in the research from shoppers as to how to improve the in-store environment are include in-store displays, clearer signs, improved décor and better customer service. The survey was conducted by Empathy Research and sampled 1,025 grocery shoppers in Ireland.
