Tesco Ireland has confirmed that it has no plans to delist Carlsberg in its Irish stores, following the news that it was destocking the brand in the UK as part of an ongoing range review.
A statement posted by Tesco UK at the weekend notified customers that the retailer has “taken the decision to discontinue a number of Carlsberg products in our stores and online. […] Colleagues in store will be on hand to offer assistance and suggest alternatives should customers find a product they used to buy is no longer available."
However, a spokesperson for Tesco Ireland confirmed that the beer, which is distributed here by Diageo, will remain on its shelves. “We will continue to stock Carlsberg in Ireland,” the spokesperson said.
“We make all ranging decisions for Tesco Ireland based on local customer insight to ensure that we offer our customers the best range, quality, choice and availability to suit their needs, including offer a wide range of local Irish products.
“Our focus for category resets has been to simplify our range, to give our customers the choice they want while also improving the availability of the products which our customers love most.”
Tesco’s decision to delist Carlsberg in the UK comes as chief executive Dave Lewis seeks to reduce the retailer’s SKU count from around 90,000 to between 65,000 and 70,000.
