The winners of this year’s Irish Magazine Awards were announced last Thursday, December 3rd in The Chocolate Factory in Dublin. Winners include SuperValu’s Fresh Magazine, which was named Customer Magazine of the Year, and the RTE Guide, which won the award for Best Cover of the Year. Irish Tatler Man took the title of Best Consumer Magazine with a circulation of less than 5,000, and Irish Country Magazine won Best Consumer Magazine with a circulation of more than 15,000.

Fianna Fáil's Éamon Ó Cuív TD has called on the government to make a public statement that "it believes it would be wrong of the supermarkets to try to destroy the industry through totally uneconomic pricing" in the run up to Christmas. In a Dáil debate, Ó Cuív said that he has been calling on the Department of Agriculture to "to stop standing back and allowing the supermarkets force the horticulture industry into a precarious situation. The supermarkets are, effectively, dumping food onto the market by selling it at absolutely ridiculous prices, prices at which no farmer can produce the produce."

Advertising agency Boys and Girls has appointed Shane Casey as its new Head of Digital. Multiple award winner Casey will lead a department of digital specialists who will work with Creative Director Rory Hamilton on delivering ideas that will bring a brand’s digital communications to life.

Ireland’s second National Workplace Wellbeing Day has been announced as Friday, April 8th 2016. Both public and private sector organisations nationwide are expected to take part with the aim of improving employee healthy by encouraged healthier habits in the workplace. As part of the activities, employers are being asked to arrange a ‘Lunchtime Mile’, a one-mile cycle, jog, run, walk or swim for employees.

Aldi has announced a new kitchen range on sale in its stores from Thursday, December 10th as part of its Specialbuys offering. The range includes Aldi’s Multi Chef for €199.99, a multifunctional kitchen appliance for mixing, chopping and cooking. Also on offer is a variety of casserole dishes, pots and pans priced from €14.99 to €24.99.

UFC Champion Conor McGregor has signed an endorsement deal to with sports nutrition brand BSN, part of Glanbia’s Global Performance Nutrition stable, which also includes Optimum Nutrition and Isopure. An area of growth for Glanbia, GPN’s revenues increased 13.5% last year to €746.2 million, representing volume growth of 7.4%.

Aldi Stores Ireland has been granted planning permission for a new store in Trim by Meath County Council. The green light has been given for a development set to include a single-storey food store with an off-licence and a floor area of 1,729m2, as well as signage and 106 car parking spaces.

Ireland is a “global leader in sustainable food production”, according to the IFA’s Harold Kingston, who was presenting at the recent international climate talks in Paris. “No other country in the world monitors, measures and manages carbon from farm to fork,” Kingston told the conference. “Initiatives such as the IFA-led Smart Farming programme address the dual challenges of improving farm incomes while reducing environmental impacts.”

Following the departure if Marc Mathieus, Unilever has appointed Aline Santos as its Senior Vice President of Global Marketing. Santos has worked in the FMCG sector for 25 years, and was global SVP for Unilever’s laundry brands in Brazil. She has played key roles in developing both the Dove Beauty Campaign and the Persil ‘Dirt Is Good’ campaign,
