After a €7 million investment, a new SuperValu will open in Kilcock, Co. Kildare located in The Square. The new store will create about 60 new jobs and will be run by local retailers, Steven Nalley and Edward Casey.
Smithwicks will now have a new label that contains information such as alcohol content, nutritional information, and warnings for drink driving as well as consumption during pregnancy, according to Diageo Ireland. The drinks company hopes to see these new labelling standards appear throughout its Guinness products by the beginning of 2017.
Imperial Tobacco is closing its manufacturing plant located in Mullingar, Co Westmeath and is moving its remaining production lines to the Netherlands after the EU decided to introduce a minimum pack size of 30g for rolling tobacco products, according to Irishtimes.ie. The ruling lead to a shutting down of multiple production lines in Mullingar, resulting in a total of 87 job losses.
Musgrave Marketplace has announced that its Ballymun store, off St. Margaret’s Road, will be given a €2.2 million upgrade and open in October, according to irishtimes.com. The upgrade will produce a 20% increase in the size of the cash and carry area and a variety of new speciality areas.
Lidl intends to launch an additional 25 new craft beers and ciders into its network of 146 Irish stores. It will include 16 new Irish and Northern Irish craft beers and ciders as well as craft beers from Belgium and Great Britain. The new craft beers and ciders will encompass varieties of lager, stout, cider, ale and wheat beer which be available in Lidl from 11 of July.
Tesco Ireland does not plan on following Tesco UK's new Fair For Farmers Guarantee on Milk, according to agriland.ie. Fair For Farmers Guarantee lets customers know how each pint of milk sold by Tesco is 100% British and provides the shopper with the price Tesco pays to all its dairy farmers.
Lidl will introduce several GMO-free dairy products in its German stores, including GMO-free milk from July onwards, according to agriland.ie. Its GMO-free dairy product offering in Bavarian stores will expand to include, sour cream, crème fraiche, mozzarella and sliced cheese such as Emmentaler and Wisenlander.
