Aldi To Open New Ballyhaunis Store, 30 New Jobs To Be Created

Aldi Ireland has announced its plans to open a new store in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, following Mayo County Council granting the discounter planning permission.

The new store will also create 30 new permanent jobs as well as 50 jobs during the construction phase, with an expected opening date of 2022.

The development on Main Street, in the centre of Ballyhaunis, will see a substantial investment into the local area. The new environmentally friendly store will be powered by 100% renewable electricity and will be constructed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh design.

The 1,315mstore will feature 101 car parking spaces and 10 bike parking spaces, providing ample parking to customers, whether cycling or driving to the store. Aldi will also be investing in the future of Ballyhaunis through the provision of four free-to-use electric vehicle charging points.

Commenting, Colin Breslin, Aldi regional managing director said: “We are delighted to get the green light from Mayo County Council for our new Ballyhaunis store."

"It’s great news for local Mayo shoppers, with another Aldi store coming to Ballina towards the end of next year,” he added.

The new store will be Aldi’s 5th in County Mayo, with existing stores in Castlebar, Ballinrobe, Claremorris and Belmullet.

The Mayo stores have donated over 17,000 meals to charity to date. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with The Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, Western Care Association and the 9th Mayo Claremorris Scout Group some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
