Aldi’s Bailebourough Planning Application Granted

Aldi’s application for a new store in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan has been granted. The permission for the 1,550 metres squared store was announced yesterday by the Cavan County Council’s planning department.

The news follows several objections made in January by Tesco, Supervalu, the Bailiebourough Traders Association, the local Development Association and local man Rory Clarke. Local businesses in the town feel that another large retail store would be detrimental to the already struggling local economy and the town’s independent businesses.

Objectors of the plans have until Friday April 11 to make their appeal to the planning authority An Bord Pleanala ‘four weeks beginning on the date of the decision (Thursday March 13)’. No construction is to take place until then.
