Aldi Ireland has submitted a planning application to extend the capacity of its Oranmore store car park by over 40%.
Oranmore shoppers will see an additional 39 free car parking spaces added, bringing the total capacity to 131, the retailer said.
Aldi Oranmore is one of Aldi’s busiest stores in Galway, it added.
By extending the car park Aldi will ensure that all customers can avail of free parking when visiting the store.
New Town Centre
The Oranmore store is located centrally at New Town Centre, meaning customers can easily access the best value groceries in Ireland.
The extended car park will also provide three extra parent-child parking spaces and two additional spaces reserved for shoppers with a disability.
Commenting, Colin Breslin, Aldi regional managing director said, “Providing the best shopping experience for customers is our number one priority.
"By extending our car park to 131 spaces we can ensure that all Aldi shoppers in the local community are guaranteed more free parking at the store," he said.
"We look forward to further investing in Oranmore and meeting the needs of the people of the town,” Breslin added.
Aldi’s currently operates nine stores in Co. Galway and has recently obtained planning permission for a new store on Old Monivea Road, Ballybrit.
In 2020, Aldi sourced €28 million of locally produced food and drink from its Galway-based suppliers.
All of Aldi’s Galway stores are deeply involved in their local communities, having donated over 40,000 meals to local charities to date through Aldi’s partnership with FoodCloud.
Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with MADRA Dog Rescue, East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support and Burren Animal Rescue some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
