Aldi Voted Ireland’s Most Sustainable Supermarket

Irish shoppers have voted Aldi as the most sustainable supermarket in Ireland, and the fifth most sustainable business overall, according to the new Ireland RepTrak Sustainability Index 2023, published today (4 October).

The discounter noted that the annual Ireland RepTrak Sustainability Index explores the public’s perceptions of 100 of the largest, most important and most visible organisations in the country, across the key drivers of sustainability.

The findings are from a ‘comprehensive survey of more than 5,500 members of the public during January and February 2023’.

Aldi noted that it scored consistently well across key categories, including citizenship, conduct and the workplace, reflecting the retailer’s commitment to making sustainability affordable for everyone by providing responsibly sourced products at the lowest-possible prices.

Commenting on the achievement, Liz Fox, national sustainability director, Aldi Ireland, said, “Irish shoppers voting Aldi as the most sustainable supermarket is a testament to the dedication of our amazing staff, suppliers, and business partners, all of whom have worked tirelessly to provide the best customer experience for Aldi shoppers.

“We understand our customers are always looking for new ways to shop sustainably with us, and we would like to thank our customers for supporting this business objective, as we continue to work towards a more sustainable future.

“While there is still work to be done to reach all of our sustainability targets, we have a number of noteworthy achievements, of which we, as a business, are extremely proud.

“For example, by continuing our work with our charity partners, Barnardos, and not-for-profit organisation FoodCloud, we’ve been able to aid their work in helping the most vulnerable members of society, as well as provide continued support to causes that are close to the hearts of our customers.

“At Aldi, we continue to lead the market in pay and benefits for our colleagues, working both nationally and internationally, to ensure we adhere to the highest standards of corporate governance, and work with local communities across the cities and towns of our 160 stores, to effect positive change.”

In May of this year, Aldi was also voted as the most reputable supermarket in Ireland, in the 2023 RepTrak survey.
