Centra Insights Reveals Dramatic Rise In Iced-Coffee Sales

Centra Insights has revealed that iced-coffee sales in Ireland have gone up by 150% at the retailer, compared to last year.

It found that millennial and Gen Z consumers are driving the trend, as they look for a caffeine boost on warm summer days.

This category of coffee drinker is also more likely to add a flavoured syrup to his/her/their drink or purchase other, non-traditional coffee products, such as frappés and cold brews.

Centra expects iced-coffee sales to continue growing at a substantial rate this year, as Irish consumers mirror a global trend of increased coffee consumption.

According to GlobalData, 24% of US consumers said that they consumed iced coffee at least once a day in 2023, compared to 17% in 2022.


The iced-coffee trend is one of a number of observations made by the Centra Insights team.

Wellness and well-being are increasingly important to Centra shoppers, with the retailer expecting growth in this area, as customers reach for plant-based drinks or power shakes on the go.

Across these products, sales are up 26% on last year.

‘Continued Strong Growth’

Speaking about the iced-coffee trend, the commercial manager at Frank and Honest, Jill Corcoran, said, “The growth of iced coffee is a well-recognised trend, and Ireland is catching up on more mature markets for this product, like the US and UK.

“We expect continued strong growth in the category, and the customer demographics indicated that iced coffee will be a significant part of the Irish coffee market from now on.


“Iced coffee – including iced americano, latte and mocha – is a key part of our Frank and Honest offering.
