Consumer Goods Forum Commits To Health & Wellness

The board of directors of The Consumer Goods Forum yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to the implementation of its Health & Wellness Resolutions, published in June 2011.

The announcement was made at the forum’s global summit currently underway in Paris, and all forum members have been asked for their increased alignment and engagement with the resolutions, which implore retailers and manufacturers to play an active role in improving the health and wellbeing of their customers.

The forum – a global industry network – includes members from 70 different countries worldwide. Among its members are Irish organisations such as Musgrave and Bord Bia, as well as the likes of Kellogg’s, Diageo, Heineken and Danone.

The resolutions include making company policy on nutrition and product formulation public and establishing employee health and wellness programmes (both by 2016), industry-wide implementation of consistent product labeling and consumer information to help consumers make informed choices (2018) and cease targeted advertising to children under 12 for products that do not fulfill specific nutrition criteria (2018).

The board also approved the establishment of an external scientific advisory council on health and wellness to give directional guidance.
