Dunnes Stores To Close Gorey Outlet

Dunnes Stores has announced that it is to close its outlet in Gorey, Co. Wexford, in a move that Mandate trade union have described as “a disgraceful way to treat their staff”.

According to Mandate, Dunnes workers were summoned to a meeting at 6pm last night, at which the announcement of the ‘immediate closure’ was made.

Speaking last night, Mandate general secretary John Douglas said “At this moment in time the workers have not been told whether their jobs are at risk. We simply don’t know whether the store will open again in the future or whether there may be store transfers available. […] This is completely unacceptable.”

He added, “We’re once again calling on the company to do the right thing by their workers. Agree to a meeting with the workers’ representatives and ensure that jobs are protected in the best interests of the business and the workers concerned.” [Image: Google Maps]
