FSAI Reports Seven Closure Orders In September

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has reported that seven Closure Orders were served on food businesses by HSE environmental health officers during September for breaches of food safety legislation.

Under the FSAI Act, 1998, Closure orders were served on Roma Takeaway in Dromcollogher, Limerick, and Express Fast Food Takeaway in Fintown, Donegal, as well as on Meal Box on Cork Street in Dublin.

Another four Closure Orders were served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on Stonehouse Restaurant in Tralee, Kerry; Kebab Bites located in Redmond Square in Wexford; the takeaway and bakery food preparation units, (along with their associated storage facilities) of the Lime Leaf XL Shop in Renmore, Galway, and also on the Fusion Café on Monck Street in Wexford.

September also saw the HSE carry out three successful prosecutions on two businesses in Donegal; two on Halfway House in Burnfoot, and one on the Atlantic Bar on Main Street, Buncrana.

Commenting on Enforcement Orders served in September, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI emphasised that consumers must be confident at all times that the food they are eating is safe to eat.

She added, “There can be no excuse for putting consumers’ health at risk through negligent practices. We are re-emphasising to all food businesses the need for rigorous compliance with food safety and hygiene legislation.”

Details of food businesses served with Enforcement Orders are published on the FSAI’s website at www.fsai.ie. Closure Orders and Improvement Orders remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is determined to have corrected its food safety issue. Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
