Gala Retail was on hand to help launch the inaugural 'Junior Parkrun Ireland' at Kenure Woods in Rush, Co. Dublin at the weekend, which saw more than 160 children and parents participate in a two-kilometre run.
Gala Retail was recently unveiled as the first commercial sponsorship of parkrun Ireland – incorporating both the 5k and 2k parkrun events. The three-year deal is part of the Gala Retail’s new health and wellness strategy – ‘Your Choice with Gala’ – which will deliver more choice for its shoppers.
“Gala’s sponsorship of parkrun Ireland embraces ‘Your Choice with Gala’, as parkrunners can choose to walk, run or jog at the weekly parkruns and there’s no age limit on participation," said Tony Cluskey, marketing manager with Gala Retail.
"In addition, there’s a real synergy between Gala stores – which are independently-owned and operate in the heart of local communities – and parkrun events – which are owned and run by the community."
All parkrun events are community-owned, coordinated weekly runs that take place 52 weeks of the year, and are free to attend, removing all barriers for participation.
