SuperValu To Stock GreenAware's Sustainable Household Range

SuperValu has announced that it will stock GreenAware's sustainable household range across its store network nationwide.

The range features 100% compostable, 100% natural and 100% plastic free products and is now available in SuperValu stores around Ireland.

The GreenAware range includes everything from Compostable Gloves and Bamboo Dish Cloths to Natural Fibre Bottle Brushes and Compostable Nappy Bags.

Ian Allen, managing director of SuperValu, said, “SuperValu is committed to providing customers with more sustainable choices and recognises the importance of green alternatives to both our customers and the environment."

"The GreenAware sustainable household range is all made using natural and renewable materials so is a great choice we’re delighted to offer our customers around Ireland,” he said.

'Environmentally Friendly Initiatives'

This announcement is just one of SuperValu’s many environmentally friendly initiatives including reusable fruit, veg & bakery bags, fully compostable packaging on organic produce as well as soup and sandwich containers and the introduction of 100% recyclable and compostable trays in the meat, fish and bakery counters, the retailer said.

Sustainable Sundays

As part of SuperValu’s commitment to becoming more sustainable the retailer said that it has introduced Sustainable Sundays, sharing the steps SuperValu is taking to improve its impact on the planet and how customers can get involved too.

SuperValu said it is committed to being Net Zero Carbon by 2050 in addition to moving to sustainable packaging SuperValu is committed to operating all facilities with 100% green electricity and to sending no recoverable waste to landfill.

Any food surplus in stores is sent to re-distribution charities so food waste is minimised as well as helping to alleviate food poverty.

Ireland's Leading Grocer

SuperValu currently leads the way as Ireland's top grocery retailer and holds a 22.5% share of the market.

According to the latest figures from Kantar, which were published on 20 September, this was driven by consumers visiting the store 7% more often than they did last year, the highest shopper frequency among all the retailers, which led to a sales boost of €43 million for the grocer.
