Lidl Ireland Breaks Ground On €12m Newcastle Store To Open This Summer

Construction has begun on a new Lidl store in Newcastle, Dublin, which will bring 30 new jobs to the area when it opens this summer.

The €12 million investment will see a store located at Main Street Upper, in Newcastle Town Centre, along with two ancillary units housing a cafe and another retail unit.

The store will be replacing a formerly derelict building site, the overall size of which is 9,306 square metres.

New Lease Of Life

The plans for the site were approved by South Dublin County Council in May of last year, and it is hoped that the store will inject a new lease of life into the village and boost the retail offering in the town.

Speaking about the location of the new store, the regional property director of Lidl Ireland, Vincent Cronolly, said, “Newcastle has experienced a real population boom in recent years, with the addition of new housing developments and improved public transport links connecting the village with Dublin City and Kildare, attracting more commuting workers and families to live the area.”

Cronolly continued, “We’re delighted to now work with our construction partners, NRS Group, to create this new, state-of-the-art store for the people of Newcastle, who can look forward to an unrivalled local shopping experience with Ireland’s best-value retailer when it opens this summer.”

Wider Plans

The new store will be 2,252 square metres and boast an expansive sales floor space of 1,446 square metres.

The facilities will include restrooms and baby-changing facilities, as well as an in-store bakery, off-licence, and spacious aisles.

Sustainability is a core concern in the design, and the Newcastle store will incorporate a range of features, including a certified energy management system, high-performing energy-efficient technologies, and the installation of solar panels.

Wider plans for the Lidl site include electric vehicle charging points, a redeveloped car park, and regenerative landscaping.
