Lidl Ladies National Football League Urges Families To ‘Get Behind The Fight’

Lidl Ireland and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) have urged families to ‘Get Behind The Fight’ and attend the Lidl Ladies National Football League finals this weekend.

The retailer and organisation are gearing up for an action-packed weekend of National Football League Finals across four divisions with special deals on tickets.

Armagh, Kerry, Kildare and Tyrone will be battling it out in Croke Park this weekend.

For €50, a family of four can enjoy a full afternoon at Croke Park for two of the weekend games. This breaks down as €20 each for the adult tickets and €5 each for the juvenile tickets.

Student and OAP tickets are also available for €10.

Meanwhile Carlow, Limerick, Clare and Roscommon will be competing at Grant Heating St. Brendan’s Park in Birr, Co. Offaly.

Adult tickets for these games are €15 each, students and OAP tickets are €5, under 18s tickets are €2 and under 12s can attend for free.

‘Get Behind The Fight’

The campaign aims to fill every seat at the matches after research by Lidl found that a staggering 59% of Irish people have never attended a live women’s sporting event.

This figure is especially shocking as the survey also found that 42% stated an interest in attending and 74% think it is a shame more people don’t attend.

59% of Irish people said they would prefer to watch men’s sport on TV than attend a live female sporting event.

This is in spite of research showing that the public perceive women’s sport to be of high quality and exciting (53%) as well as skilful (66%).

According to the data, almost three quarters (74%) of Irish people said reasonable ticket pricing was an important driver influencing attendance. It also said that over a third (34%) of people think ticket prices are too high.

This weekend’s ticket deals aim to combat that perception, as they are available for less than half the price of other iconic Dublin attractions.

‘Build On This Momentum’

The corporate affairs director of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland Eimear O’Sullivan said,  “The Lidl National Football League season kicked off back in January with a compelling call to action to join the fight and support out female athletes by attending more fixtures.

“There has definitely been positive growth across the leagues and we will continue to build on this momentum.

“Our research revealed that the perceived cost of attending women’s sporting events can be a barrier, but the LGFA continues to offer great value to spectators across the leagues and, with two action-packed clashes for the price of one this weekend, we’re encouraging families to come out and support our female players and enjoy a top family day out.”

The president of the LGFA Mícheál Naughton added, “We’re looking forward to four excellent games of football over the coming weekend, as we get set to crown our 2024 Lidl National League champions.

“I’m looking forward to seeing big crowds attending our Finals at the weekend, and I anticipate more and more people coming to watch our great games in the coming weeks and months.”

Lidl Ireland has committed more than €10 million to the development and promotion of Ladies Gaelic Football since 2016.

It launched its ‘Get Behind the Fight’ campaign in January to encourage greater attendance at female sports events.
