Lightspeed Brings Its Payment POS To Ireland

Lightspeed Commerce, Inc. this week announced the availability of Lightspeed Payments for hospitality and retail businesses in Ireland.

Lightspeed is a unified POS and payment platform that aims to provide a seamless customer experience.

The Republic of Ireland is an underserved market for payment systems, particularly in the hospitality sector.

Since it launched its embedded-payment capabilities, it has given small and medium-sized retail and hospitality business access to key functions.

The company identified rising costs in the Irish retail and hospitality industry, and so the unified system aims to help businesses efficiently manage payments.

The system also aims to reduce costs by using the software to optimise operations.

Mobile, Contactless Spending On The Rise

Mobile and contactless spending have been on the rise in Ireland, according to a survey by the Central Bank of Ireland.

The survey found that contactless cards accounted for 84% of total card payments in the first half of 2023.

It also showed that the retail sector accounted for 47% of domestic expenditure in Ireland in the same period.

Card payments are also the most prominent in cities, with more than half (53%) of Irish card payments occurring in Dublin.

Cork and Galway were second and third, respectively.

Liam Crooks, the managing director of Lightspeed, said of the Irish expansion, “This is a crucial time for Irish businesses, where they need simplified solutions that save them time [and] money, and make processes more efficient.

“This launch empowers our customers to have secure, faster transactions that give them a richer range of data about their business.

“In the Republic of Ireland, we’re pleased to add new capabilities and flexibility for those businesses.”

The Lightspeed POS operates from a single system of record. This allows businesses to eliminate the need for a separate payment provider, gaining a secure platform.
