Retail Sales Up By 3.7% In January Year-On-Year

The volume of retail sales increased by 3.7% in January 2020 compared to the same period last year, research shows.

However,  the volume of retail sales has decreased by 3.4% in January 2020, when compared to December 2019 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the CSO statistical Retail Sales Index.

Retail Sales Value

The figures showed that there was a decrease of 1.4% in the value of retail sales in January 2020 when compared with December 2019 and there was an annual increase of 3.5% when compared with January 2019.

If Motor Trades are excluded, there was a decrease of 1.2% in the value of retail sales in the month and an increase of 2.1% in the annual figure.

The percentage of turnover generated by Online Sales for All Businesses for January 2020 was 3.3%.
