Retail Sector Supports New Measures In Response To COVID-19

Retail Ireland, the Ibec group that represents the Irish retail sector, today said it fully supports the far-reaching new measures announced by Government in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

“Retailers that will continue to trade are putting in place a wide range of new measures to support social distancing guidelines," said Arnold Dillon, director of Retail Ireland.

"This includes new distance markings on floors and limiting access during busy periods."

Dillon highlighted that the public have been supportive of these measures that are being put in place to ensure the safety of retail workers and customers.

"Public health is the absolute priority and retailers fully support the role the Gardai will play in ensuring guidelines are adhered to.”

Surge Eases

Dillion noted that the surge in demand in the grocery sector has eased in the last week.

"The distribution system and supply chains are fully operational and shelves will continue to be stocked," he added.

"If people shop responsibility and only buy what they need, there will be plenty for everyone.”
