Scally's SuperValu Clonakilty Announces Gluten-Free Bakery Plans

Scally's SuperValu in Clonakilty has announced plans to develop Ireland's first ever gluten-free in-store bakery and production facility, following a €500,000 investment.

The announcement coincides with Irish Coeliac Awareness Week, which runs until 19th May.

Commenting on the new facility, which is scheduled to open during the summer, store owner Eugene Scally said, "While we already stock a large range of gluten-free products, we decided that the best way of addressing increasing customer demand was to build our own facility and create our own innovative in-store range."

"When we talked to our customers it became clear that they are frustrated at the restricted range and the high price of gluten-free options currently available in the Irish market. While there are some excellent gluten-free products already on the shelves, customers simply want more choice and better value. We decided that by creating our own production facility we can be more responsive to our customers needs and really provide them with an unbeatable choice of products.” Sca

The new facility will create five jobs. Scally's SuperValu Clonakilty was named 'Best Large Supermarket' at the Checkout Best in Fresh Awards last year.
