SuperValu noted that supporting local producers and suppliers is of key importance to its team.

The store features exclusive offerings to customers across the Taste of Local range, which contains over 30 products sourced directly from up-and-coming producers within the region.

In addition, the store will offer a ‘wide array of products from over 1,800 Irish suppliers around the country’.

“Our fantastic range of fresh meat, fish, fruit and veg, bakery, and unrivalled local products in our Taste of Local range will bring an unparalleled shopping experience to the locality,” Allen added.

SuperValu highlighted that a new plaza connecting the site with Graydon Road, Newcastle, will have a focus on biodiversity and pollinator-friendly planting.

More than 1,100 plants within the scheme will be pollinator friendly, supporting the ecosystem for bees and enabling them to thrive.

The store’s operations will also ‘meet the highest sustainability standards, in line with SuperValu’s commitments in this area.’

It noted that it will use renewable-energy heat pumps for heating, solar panels for electricity, and ultra-efficient LED lighting and refrigeration units.

“At SuperValu, we believe in making communities better by caring for our environment,” Allen said.
