SuperValu has announced that it expects to sell 125,000 Irish poinsettias this Christmas period, stocking 100% Bord Bia quality assured Irish poinsettias from Dublin-based grower Uniplumo.
The partnership between Uniplumo and SuperValu is now in its 18th year and has led the grower to increase the number of poinsettias grown by 25% over the past three years to meet customer demand.
Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu, said, "As the number one supporter of Irish suppliers, our long-standing partnership with Uniplumo enables us to bring locally produced poinsettias of the highest quality to SuperValu customers all over the country. Our relationship with Uniplumo has helped the company to continue to grow in order to meet customer demand for the extremely popular poinsettia."
Tom Summerville, General Manager, Uniplumo, added, "Poinsettias are a traditional Christmas plant and we are delighted that through SuperValu’s 223 stores, our Bord Bia quality assured Irish grown poinsettias will decorate homes across Ireland again this year. This announcement by SuperValu of an even larger order this year is a very welcome one for Uniplumo, helping us to sustain over 40 local jobs, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the retailer long into the future."
