SuperValu To Sell €66 Million Worth Of Irish Milk This Year

Musgrave Group retailer SuperValu expects to sell €66 million worth of Irish milk in 2014, after it reported sales of €58 million worth of National Dairy Council (NDC) Certified milk in 2013. The milk will be sourced from seven creameries throughout Ireland and support over 2,000 farming families. SuperValu’s branded milk comes from the Glanbia, Clóna, Wexford, Lee Strand, Arrawbawn, Donegal/Connaught Gold and North Cork creameries.

Eamon Howell, trading director, SuperValu, said; “At SuperValu, we are proud to stock NDC certified milk, selling 1.5 million litres of NDC certified milk per week. In doing so our customers know that we are delivering quality produce whilst supporting local suppliers whom they can trust. It is hard to believe that one in four litres of milk sold in the Republic of Ireland does not carry the NDC guarantee; however this is certainly not the case at SuperValu.”

Zoë Kavanagh, NDC chief executive, commented; “We are delighted to come together with SuperValu as exclusive partners in National Dairy Week. The NDC guarantee is an important certification as it assures consumers that milk has been both farmed and processed locally. Shoppers generally assume that milk is local, however that is not necessarily the case.”
