Tesco 'Shocked' As Members Urged To 'Shop With Their Conscience'

Tesco has expressed its 'shock' as unions have suggested that union members should 'shop with their conscience', according to Journal.ie

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) held a briefing in which John Douglas, General Secretary, Mandate, encouraged members ti follow their own judgement when it came to their own personal shopping decisions.

In response, the retail giant released a statement to express their shock and said, 'we are shocked that trade union leaders are urging union workers to shop in non-unionised stores'.

The retail giant has been calling in recent days for Mandate, which represents in the region of 11,000 of Tesco’s 14,000 Irish workforce, to abandon its plans for strike action, which is scheduled for Valentine's Day (14 February) and to accept the recommendations of the Labour Court, made last March.
