Tesco Strike Deferred To Allow For Further Talks

Strike action that had been planned to take place at 70 Tesco stores nationwide has been deferred as the retailer and Mandate Trade Union agree to return to the Workplace Relations Commission for further talks.

Mandate announced the industrial action after talks over proposed changes to pre-1996 Tesco staff contracts collapsed earlier this week.

Earlier today, Tesco expressed its concern that the trade union had not presented the compromises it proposed at the WRC to its members.

Mandate has been calling on Tesco to either withdraw what it alleges are "threats to force changes to pay and conditions of employment for their workers without agreement" or to attend the Labour Court.
