Topaz Bid For Esso Enters Competition Authority Process

The bid by fuel retailer Topaz to acquire its rival Esso Ireland has been notified to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

The proposed merger entered the 'Phase 1 Submissions' stage on 14 April, with submissions from third parties accepted until 29 April 2015.

Topaz announced in January that it had acquired 38 Esso sites around the country, subject to competition approval. The deal also includes the right to supply around 60 service stations operated by independent dealers.

The fuel retailer is confident of having the deal completed by the third quarter of 2015.
