Aldi is sponsoring The National Junior Baking Competition, in association with Foróige, once again this year and is planning to stock the winning cake across its stores nationwide.
This year the competition is looking for a Lemon Drizzle Cake.
The winner will also receive a €1000 bursary and a €1500 Aldi voucher for their local Foróige group.
Finbar McCarthy, group buying director at Aldi Ireland said, "At Aldi, we are a proud supporter of Irish suppliers, so we are delighted to sponsor The National Junior Baking Competition for the fourth year in a row.
“We are encouraging all junior-baking enthusiasts, whether novice or expert home bakers, to whip out the mixing bowl and perfect their baking skills. The creations that came from the young people last year were excellent, and we expect this year’s entrants to be even more creative.”
Jessica Doherty, aged 13, from Bundoran & Ballyshannon Foróige NYP, emerged as the winner last year, and the retailer added that her Lemon Drizzle Cake has been flying off the shelves in all 130 Aldi stores nationwide since Christmas.
Sean Campbell, CEO Foróige said, “This competition encourages young people to explore their passion for baking. It allows them to express their creativity, display their talents on a national platform, and learn about the world of food.
“It’s a fabulous opportunity and we are delighted to be partnered with Aldi in rolling it out for the fourth year running.”
The competition finals will take place in the Aldi Marquee at the National Ploughing Championships in September. Last year a record number of 291,500 people attended the event.
