11% Of Consumers Purchase Energy Drinks Weekly

Despite over four-fifths of consumers (81%) noticing an influx of energy drinks in the market, only 11% of consumers purchase energy drinks at least once a week, according to the latest Consumer Insights survey from Empathy Research.

The survey of 1,000 Irish adults aged 18+ found that over a third of male consumers (35%) purchase energy drinks at least once a month, which is considerably higher than the percentage of females (22%) that do likewise.

Looking at this by age, energy drinks are most popular among those aged under 25, with almost 1 in 4 18-24 year olds (24%) surveyed saying they purchase energy drinks once a week or more, while a further 28% purchase them at least once a month.

Just over two-fifths of consumers (42%) think that energy drinks are a good way to boost energy levels. Somewhat unsurprisingly, this was predominantly driven by those who consume energy drinks regularly, with 70% of those who drink energy drinks at least once a month saying they ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’ that energy drinks help boost their energy levels.

While there appears to be disagreement with the health benefits of energy drink consumption among adults, the vast majority of Irish adults (84%) are in agreement that energy drinks are unsafe for children.
