Aldi Ireland Plans To Open Second Store In Ennis

More shoppers in Ennis, Co Clare will be able to shop at Aldi Ireland as the retailer announced today that it had submitted a planning application to Clare Co Council for a second store in the town.

30 new permanent jobs will be created at the store, while up to 50 jobs will be supported during the construction phase.

Aldi is planning to open the store, which will be located at Westpoint Retail Park on Kilrush Road, in late 2023. It will be Aldi’s second store in Ennis. The retailer’s Aldi Francis Street store opened in June 2005.

A Green Store

The new 1,000 square metre store will be powered by 100% green electricity, 96 dedicated customer car parking spaces will be provided, and Aldi will provide four electric vehicle charging points outside the premises.

Shoppers will be able to access the store from the N85 ring road and Kilrush Road.

Aldi currently operates four stores in Co Clare, with stores in Ennistymon, Killaloe, Kilrush and on Francis Street, Ennis.

Supporting Local

In 2020, Aldi sourced €2.8 million worth of locally produced food and drink from Co Clare-based suppliers.

Aldi’s Clare stores have donated over 30,000 meals to local charities through Aldi’s partnership with FoodCloud.

Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with Friends of Ennistymon Hospital, Ennis Scout Group, Milford Care Centre, and Kilmihil Peoples Park Ltd being some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
