Dawn Meats And Dunbia Deal Examined By UK Competition Authorities

The UK’s Competition and Market Authority (CMA) has announced it is investigating the anticipated joint venture between Dawn Meats and Dunbia, as well as the anticipated acquisition of Dunbia Limited by Dawn Meats Unlimited Company.

The CMA says it is looking at whether or not the deal could ‘result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.’

Strategic Partnership

Earlier this year, Dawn Meats announced that is had entered a strategic partnership with Dunbia to establish a majority owned joint venture in the UK.

Approval of the deal would see Dawn separately acquire Dunbia’s operations in the Republic of Ireland, while the UK operations will be made up of both organisations.

At the time, Dawn Meats CEO, Niall Browne commented, “We are both family businesses with a deep connection to farming and a culture and business ethos that is centred on quality and sustainability.

“Given the uncertainty posed by Brexit, this partnership should further underpin the competitiveness of both operations to the benefit of all stakeholders in the UK, Ireland and across Europe.”
