Lidl Ireland Announces New €1m Contract With Solar Energy Provider, Enerpower
Lidl Ireland has announced the appointment of Waterford-based energy solutions provider, Enerpower to install more than €1 million euro worth of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on a further 10 store projects across Ireland over the next 12 months.
'This builds on an existing long-term partnership with the Irish energy solutions provider, who previously worked to install Ireland’s largest array of PV solar panels at Lidl’s 58,000m2 Newbridge regional distribution centre in 2019,' the discount retailer said.
Alan Barry, director of Property and Central Services for Lidl Ireland said: “We are committed to moving towards and incorporating a more sustainable store concept into all future expansion and refurbishment projects."
At present, Lidl’s PV solar panel array across 22 stores and their Newbridge Co. Kildare distribution centre generates enough energy to power more than 950 Irish homes each year.
"With every store and location that we convert to solar energy, we are significantly reducing our carbon footprint and making significant savings on our energy costs. These savings will be passed on in the value that we provide to our customers,” Barry added.
Based in Waterford, Enerpower currently has an operation of 25 employees.
Lidl and Enerpower have worked together since 2018.
The company was responsible for the installation of the largest single rooftop solar array in the country last year at Lidl’s Newbridge regional distribution centre.
The company powers 25% of energy requirements on site and reducing the facility’s carbon output by 473 tonnes annually, Lidl added.
