Musgrave Win Green Retailer Award Following Energy Reduction Programme

Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland (MRPI) has received the 2013 Green Retailer Award for its Energy Under Performing Store programme (EUPS), which targeted reduced energy consumption in SuperValu and Centra stores.

Musgrave's programme achieved sustainable savings measured and verified of up to 30%. To date, it has delivered a total annual energy savings of 8.6GWh, €1.2 Million, 5Million KgCO2.

The programme included energy training, guides, tools and templates to identify opportunities for energy and cost savings, as well as the implementation of energy saving technologies including LED lighting, refrigeration energy reduction technologies and glass door retrofits to refrigeration cabinets.

Ciaran McNally, Head of Store Development Operations at Musgrave said the award "demonstrates our strong sustainability programme that is an integral part of our operation. We work in partnership with our 197 SuperValu and 460 Centra retailers to ensure our stores are working to full capacity through environmentally friendly and cost effective systems. 

"The significant reduction in energy consumption and cost savings shows how serious we are about protecting our environment and helping our retailers to make real savings in these harsh trading times."
