Nora Cash was awarded the SuperValu Award for Excellence in Food Microbiology at a ceremony in University College Cork (UCC).
Cash finished top of her class in the Masters of Food Microbiology programme.
Now in its fifth year, the awards recognise how important microbiology research is to how consumers shop for good food.
The award was presented by Ray Bowe, Head of Food Safety and Quality, Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland, who praised Cash on her achievement.
“The Master's research undertaken by Nora Cash was in the area of Bifidobacteria, which is of critical importance to gut flora health in infants,” he said.
“Such research helps to further support Ireland’s leadership in the global infant nutrition industry. We wish Nora every success in her future career.”
As part of her award, UCC confirmed that Cash will be given €2,000, which will support her with her research.
“The leading-edge microbiological research conducted by the team at UCC is recognised globally and we are delighted to honour this endeavour,” Bowe continued.
“The SuperValu Excellence in Food Microbiology Award is now in its fifth year and reflects the continuing positive association between UCC and SuperValu Food Safety and Quality Team.”
