John O'Connor Appointed Head Of Finance At Musgrave Operating Partners Ireland

John O'Connor has been appointed to the role of Head of Finance at Musgrave Operating Partners Ireland (MOPI), following the departure of the company's Finance Director, Richard Collins, to Dunnes Stores.

O'Connor, a qualified ACCA accountant, was appointed by Superquinn in 2004, and held several financial roles at the retailer prior to the Musgrave takeover in 2011. Since 2011, he has held the role of Financial Controller at MOPI.

An article in the Sunday Independent at the weekend stated that Richard Collins 'has defected to Dunnes Stores just as the [Superquinn] chain is poised to be rebranded as SuperValu'.

A statement issued to Retail Intelligence by Musgrave said: "Musgrave can confirm Richard Collins’ decision to resign from his position as Finance Director of Musgrave Operating Partners Ireland."

Collins appointment at Dunnes follows the recent appointment of Joe Webb, the former chief executive of Independent News & Media's Irish business. Dunnes is also reportedly seeking voluntary redundancies, at both head office and retail level.
