Mace retailers are encouraging customers to indulge themselves during the lead-in to World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March by giving in to their sweet cravings and enjoying a specially created pack of four iced cupcakes. The pack of four cupcakes, two orange and two purple, to represent the colours of Mace and Down Syndrome Ireland, retail at €2.50 with all proceeds going to the official Mace Ireland charity partner to help fund their activities.

Brennans  reduced the price of its half white loaf from €1.29 to 50 cent on Friday 1 March across Centra stores nationwide, to mark the anniversary of the Storm Emma, which took place on the same date last year. Last year during the bleak weather conditions, Centra sold 450,000 loaves of bread, an increase of 150,000 loaves from the same time in 2017. In all, this resulted in sales of €1.5 million for the retailer. In a statement, the group said that Centra’s Off Licence sales also saw an increase of 24% with total sales for the Storm Emma' resulting in €7.1 million and snacks, with confectionary, crisps and soft drinks, saw a sales spike of 38% from the previous year.

Healthy fast-food chain Freshly Chopped has opened its first outlet in the UK. The chain’s new Manchester store marks its 60th outlet to open. Co-founder and managing director of Freshly Chopped, Brian Lee, admitted that it took slightly longer than anticipated to enter the UK market. He cited Brexit as the source of the delay.

The Rolling Donut has announced the launch of its new product, the Pro-nut. The new product, powered by Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Protein, was rolled out in stores on Friday, 1 March. The idea for the protein donut came after The Rolling Donut saw the connection between Ireland’s fitness industry and their inherent love of donuts.

Krispy Kreme has announced that its doughnuts will not be available to order from the Just Eat delivery app. From today, (Tuesday, 5 March). The new partnership will see Just Eat exclusively deliver the donuts in certain locations in Dublin, which it has done in response to huge customer demand. The donut store only opened in Blanchardstown Shopping centre in October 2018.

The maker behind some of Britain’s best-loved chocolate brands is on the hunt for four new ‘chocolate testers’. Mondelez International which produces brands including Cadbury, Oreo and Green and Blacks is offering chocoholics the chance of a dream job – tasting and testing new products before they hit shop shelves in over 150 countries. The successful candidates will work as part of a 12-strong team tasting chocolate and cocoa drinks, helping Mondelez perfect their recipes for chocolate lovers.

Starbucks has opened its Starbucks Reserve® Roastery Tokyo, a four-story tribute to premium coffee quality, innovation and human connection. This will be the fifth Roastery globally, opening to the public on Thursday, 28 February, reaffirming the company’s 23-year commitment to Japan. The Roastery pays tribute to the important role that Starbucks Japan has played in shaping the foundation of the Company’s international growth.
