SuperValu And Centra Expect Strong Sales Of Poinsettias Over Festive Season

SuperValu and Centra have announced the expectation of selling over 120,000 poinsettias this festive season.

The plants is expected be available in the company’s stores across the country in different formats, from the best-selling €3 variant right up to those retailing for €13.

They are also introducing the new ‘glitter poinsettia’, retailing for €5.

“Poinsettias are extremely popular at this time of year and we’ve extended our range with the new ‘glitter’ poinsettias available in all stores,” Eamon Howell, trading director, SuperValu and Centra.

All poinsettias sold by SuperValu and Centra are not only under Bord Bia approving, but also is carrying Bord Bia Quality Mark.

Uniplumo

This is the 22 year that Uniplumo has worked with SuperValu and Centra and is supposed to employ over 60 staff over the busy Christmas period to supply over 120,000 poinsettias for the Christmas season.

“Poinsettias require special care and attention during their growing cycle at our nursery,” said Grower Sean Grimes, production manager, Production Manager.

“For five months, our team work tirelessly to cater for their every need, but it means that the very best Bord Bia Quality Assured Irish Poinsettias are available to SuperValu and Centra on time for their busy Christmas season.”

Together with its retail partners, SuperValu employs approximately 14,500 colleagues, making it one of the State’s largest private sector employers.
SuperValu continues to source locally wherever possible which helps to sustain 30,000 jobs in the Irish economy.
