Amazon has accelerated its European retail expansion as it has announced an alliance with France's Groupe Casino banner Monoprix, which will see the e-commerce giant’s Prime Now services offered to shoppers in Paris and surrounding neighbourhoods. The service is due to be launched later this year and will see Monoprix SKUs available on the Prime Now app.

The Netherlands aims to become one of the first countries in the world to cut food waste in half, by launching its new national programme United Against Food Waste. The initiative will see a €7 million investment by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture over the next four years and was conceived by the cross-disciplinary group Taskforce Circular Economy Food.

Brexit could add £7.8 billion to the cost of retail goods if the UK fails to agree on a Brexit deal with the EU, according to a new study by Retail Economics and the legal practice Squire Patton Boggs. This would be due to higher costs from new tariffs and the UK’s high exposure to EU imports.

Marks & Spencer is continuing its company overhaul with the appointment of a new leadership team responsible for transforming the UK retailer’s Clothing & Home business. The retailer's Food and Clothing & Home businesses have been established as two separately-managed units, with a number of senior management shuffles as part of M&S’ five-year transformation plan.

The world’s largest yoghurt maker Danone has sold some two-thirds of its stake in Japan’s Yakult for 175 billion yen (€1.34 billion) at an 11% discount to Tuesday’s close. In a secondary sale, the French company sold 24.6 million shares of Yakult Honsha Co, reducing its holding from 21.3% to 6.6%.
